La lebbra

From this life
we had everything.
For us it was much more,
much more than a dream.
We were prisoners
at the end of the world,
and we have not said a word.
Young angels in chains
have fed our bleeding mouths,
despite our lack of faith.
We have blasphemed.
We spit and we danced
under the pale moon,
then the sun has squeezed
our face on the pillow,
and we lost everything.

We have no guilt,
but we’ll always be guilty.
Our greed has reached its limit.
God came to us,
but we haven’t heard
because we were deaf.
For a long time we have dug
with our bare hands.
Now the grave is next to our faces.
It’s a gift, our timid piety.
It’s ready, it’s ready, it’s ready
for all those who want to fill.
